What this blog is about
Why does fog collect in this valley and nowhere else nearby? Why is this coastal town built on a slope so steep it’s almost impossible to walk? Why does this region produce a fish you can’t find anywhere else in Japan?
We answer those questions through geology, geography, and the act of actually going there.
This is a travel blog about Japan — but one that reads the land as much as the scenery. The name “Okkay Vistas” comes from the Japanese 奥景 (oku-kei) — literally “the view beyond.” We chase the landscapes that lie just past the postcard spots.
Our approach
- We only write about places we’ve personally visited
- Geological and geographic information is sourced from the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan, AIST, and academic literature
- When uncertain, we say so — with phrases like “it is thought that” or “according to local records”
- Affiliate links and sponsored content are always clearly labeled
